2016 Member Value Survey Summary

The Member Value Survey was sent to all ICF Members in January 2016 and gave them the opportunity to tell us why they joined ICF, why they continue to renew their membership and if they would recommend to other coaches that they join ICF. Findings from the Member Value Survey have been used in the ICF Global membership renewal campaign and strategic planning.

Why Coaches Join

Globally 44% of ICF Members join because they feel the ICF Credential is the most recognized in the coaching profession. This is followed by 40% who join because they feel ICF is the most global coaching organization and 37% join because they feel the ICF Credential is the most globally recognized.
Note: respondents were allowed to select their top three responses.

Regionally, there are just a couple of differences in the reasons they join, however, there are some significant differences in the percentages. For example: globally 40% of ICF Members join because ICF is the most global coaching organization. However, that number is 61% in Eastern Europe and 34% in Oceania.

In both North America and Oceania, the top reason coaches join is because ICF provides me opportunities for education/professional development.

Why Members Renew

Globally, why ICF Members continue to renew is still about the credential but also because ICF provides me opportunities for education/professional development.

In Eastern Europe, Western Europe and Middle East and Africa, one of the top three reasons coaches renew their membership is because my ICF affiliation is recognized by my clients.

There is not much difference by credential status as to why members renew, however, MCCs are slightly less likely to pick ICF provides me opportunities for education/professional development as a reason to renew.

Net Promoter Score (NPS):

Globally the NPS is 26. The NPS for Middle East and Africa (46) and Latin America (44) were the highest. The three regions with the lowest NPS were Eastern Europe (20), Western Europe (17) and Oceania (17). Both Asia (28) and North America (28) were in line with the global number.

Our most experienced credentialed coaches are the biggest promoters of ICF with an NPS of 49. Members who have no credential have the lowest NPS (18).

Coaches who have been ICF Members 5 or more years have an NPS in the 30’s, which is slightly higher than the global average.
